Across the congressional map, Democrats hold the early lead in campaign cash in most of Arizona’s 10 federal races in a period with wide differences in fundraising sources and styles.
As expected, Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., raised the most money — $6 million between April and the end of June — and he ended the first half of the year with $7.6 million in available cash.
The three Republicans hoping to challenge Kelly who filed quarterly reports by Thursday’s deadline raised far less and took different paths in their early efforts to win the GOP nomination.
Democrats made a strong showing in the state’s nine races for the House of Representatives, though all of the district boundaries will be redrawn in the coming months. That leaves some doubt about other candidates who may still enter races.
And the financial picture for two Republican House incumbents, Reps. Paul Gosar and David Schweikert, also may paint a misleading picture at the moment.
In the Republican Senate race, solar power company executive Jim Lamon reported $2.2 million, though $2 million of it came from what he loaned his campaign. Another $39,000 came from people employed by Lamon’s DEPCOM Power.
