U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego will detail his experiences in the Iraq War and in the years that followed in “They Called Us ‘Lucky,'” a book scheduled for publication Nov. 9.
Gallego was deployed to Iraq in 2005 as part of a Marine Corps reserve unit from Ohio called Lima Company, which sustained heavy casualties. The book’s subtitle is “The life and afterlife of the Iraq War’s hardest hit unit.”
Gallego’s unit was unscathed in its first two months in Iraq, but that changed in May 2005. Lima Company lost 22 Marines and a Navy corpsman in Iraq before returning to the United States in November of that year
