The Scottsdale City Council will consider allocating $75,000 from its tourism and events budget to help bring the Pac-12 Conference college baseball tournament to Scottsdale Stadium.
The Pac-12 is looking to bring its baseball tourney to Scottsdale in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Games, practices and events would be held at Scottsdale Stadium and Indian School Park.
The council will look at the allocating city tourism promotion money for the first year of the baseball tournament during its Aug. 24 meeting.
The five-day tournaments would happen in May. Pac-12 officials are making a presentation on the tournament to Scottsdale officials today (Aug. 17).
The city and conference are also looking at a revenue deal.
“(The) Pac-12 shall retain the first $200,000 net revenue from tournament ticket sales for each year and city and (the) Pac-12 will split equally all net revenues in excess of $200,000. COS (City of Scottsdale) will retain all ticketing service and facility fees. COS will also retain all food and beverage revenues related to each tournament. Under this agreement, COS is responsible for the cost of all expenses to operate the tournament and PAC-12 is responsible for Its game presentation and marketing for the COS and the tournament. PAC-12 shall create and implement a marketing and promotion plan for the event to provide assurance of increased tourism to the city as a result of the event. By January 1 of each year of the event, PAC-12 shall provide the marketing and promotion plan to the city and initiate the marketing and promotion plan,” according to an analysis presented to the Scottsdale Council.
