The City of Scottsdale is moving forward with building a new fire station near Hayden Road and the Loop 101.
The new station was part of a bond package approved by Scottsdale voters in 2019.
The Scottsdale City Council will vote Aug. 24 on approving a design contract for the station with Arrington Watkins Architects.
The contract totals $690,630 and Arrington beat out ten other architectural firms bidding on the design project, according to council documents.
The new fire station aims to improve response times and will also tie into a development deal Scottsdale struck with Axon Enterprise, Inc. for its new headquarters. The deal requires “the dedication of a civic use site for such uses as a fire station, water treatment/distribution facility or other civic uses.”
Axon — the maker of Tasers and police body cameras — is locating a new headquarters on a 73-acre site that includes the fire station location.
The headquarters and new fire station parcels are currently vacant land.
