Tanya Wheeless, a former deputy chief of staff for former Sen. Martha McSally, is running for the seat in the House of Representatives in the central Phoenix area held by Democrat Greg Stanton.
Wheeless, 45, focused her Republican campaign launch message on lowering taxes, reducing regulations and “pushing back against out-of-control cancel culture.”
In an interview, Wheeless, a Tempe resident, didn’t directly attack Stanton. All the state’s boundaries will be redrawn later this year, leaving at least some question about which incumbent Wheeless might face.
