A former U.S. Navy recruitment center could become new apartments and a Quik Trip gas station in Phoenix.

The Phoenix City Council is being asked to rezone 8.94 acres at 35th Avenue and Interstate 10 for a new mixed-use project.

Eplex Realty LLC owns the site and wants to bring a new service station and convenience store as well as a multifamily component to the West Valley parcel.

Plans call for an apartment complex totaling between 192 and 200 units on the site along with a proposed QuikTrip service station.

The land is currently zoned with a( Single-Family Residence District and R-5 (Multifamily Residence District) designation.

The council is being asked to change that to R4A (Multifamily Residence District) and C-2 (Intermediate Commercial District) to allow a mix of residential and commercial uses, according to city documents.

The item is on the council’s agenda today (Sept. 8).
