The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plans to finish the first phase of construction on its north Phoenix plant by July 2022. The plant is not scheduled to start production of semiconductors, devices used to power a wide range of electronics, until 2024.
Sandra Hoffman, an assistant director in Phoenix’s Planning and Development Department, said there will be construction activity on the site, northwest of Interstate 17 and Loop 303, around the clock for the next year with about 4,000 workers on site over the course of a day.
“There will be a lot of activity for the next year. You’re going to see so much happening out there… from the freeway, you see some of the cranes,” Hoffman said during last week’s North Gateway Village Planning Committee meeting.
Hoffman said passers-by will notice vertical construction of buildings in four or five months.
