State Rep. Regina Cobb dropped out of the 2022 race for state treasurer Wednesday and endorsed a fellow lawmaker, Rep. Jeff Weninger, who announced his campaign for the office the same day. Both Republicans are term-limited from staying in the Arizona House of Representatives. Two state senators are already in the race: Republican Sen. David Livingston, who now will face Weninger, at least, in the Aug. 2 primary election, and Sen. Martín Quezada, who’s the only Democrat vying for treasurer so far.
Cobb, a dentist from Kingman, is taking a job as the executive director of the Arizona Dental Association. She said in a news release that she was happy to lend support to Weninger, R-Chandler, a fellow fiscal conservative.Weninger, who filed his paperwork for the office Tuesday, said in an interview that he and Cobb had discussed the possibility of one of them running for treasurer previously, but he “wasn’t in a position to fully make a decision … and now that she’s out, she told me about it and fully endorsing me.”.
