Chandler opens public housing waitlist for first time since 2018

CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Not every city offers low-income housing. But, the City of Chandler does. On Thursday, the city opened its waitlist for those who need this assistance.

Chandler officials told Arizona’s Family that this waitlist hasn’t been opened since 2018. They have 303 public housing units within the city and they’re expecting thousands will apply to get one of those homes.

“We’ve exhausted mostly our larger bedroom sizes. So we’re at a point right now where we need to replenish families for those units,” Amy Jacobson of Chandler Housing and Redevelopment told Arizona’s Family in an interview.

The 303 low-income housing units consist of mostly single-family homes, which are always in high demand. “We do get units that turn over, which happen monthly,” Jacobson added. “So, that’s why we want to make sure that we have adequate applicant pull.”
