Leadership from the city of Tempe highlighted the city’s progress in transportation, economic development, public safety and housing during the State of the City address on Friday.
Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said the city, like much of the nation, is facing real challenges when it comes to the increasing costs of rent and housing, but also said the city has begun an initiative aimed at helping Tempe residents find and stay in housing. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the city disbursed over $2 million in rental relief, and has created what Woods called “sustainable funding streams” to create affordable housing in the city.
