The Tempe City Council has approved a new lease deal with the Los Angeles Angels and $50.9 million worth of improvement for Tempe Diablo Stadium.
The ballpark is the Cactus League home for the Angels.
The Tempe City Council approved a new lease at its Nov. 9 meeting for the Angels at the Arizona ballpark through 2035. The previous lease was set to expire at the end of 2025. The council terminated that existing lease.
The city and Major League Baseball team have agreed to renovate Diablo Stadium with $50.9 million worth of improvements.
Those include improved seating and concourse areas along with better lighting and a new team clubhouse.
The Angels will put $10 million toward and the City of Tempe will spend $40.9 million on the ballpark upgrades, according to council documents.
The ballpark deal was approved by the Tempe council Nov. 9.
Tempe Diablo Stadium was first built in 1968 and saw some upgrades in 2005. It has been the Angels spring training base since 1993.
