The former Smitty’s property at 84th and Grand avenues has been a target investment since the decades-old structure was demolished last year, and an important part of Peoria’s plans to revitalize Old Town.
As the rubble settled last year, the property saw immediate attention as developer SJ Acquisitions came in with plans to bring a mixed-use project to the area to accommodate both commercial and multifamily housing.
However, during the past year, that plan has shifted to a project of exclusively multifamily units.
The Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission recently considered a plan to do away with the commercial aspect of the initial plan.
