The role of Democratic candidate for governor and Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in the 2015 firing of a state Senate staffer has split Arizona Democrats, prompting criticism from party leaders over the incident that has marred the onetime front-runner’s campaign.
Two Democratic members of Congress on Wednesday urged Hobbs to publicly address the case, saying by not doing so she invited continued scrutiny on the party that preaches racial justice and equity.
“Secretary Hobbs acknowledged her role in firing Ms. Adams at trial, and now must do the right thing and accept personal responsibility as well as fully explain to her constituents how she will better uphold the values that are important to all Arizonans,” U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton said in a statement.
