The first six cases of the omicron variant of COVID-19 have been detected in metro Phoenix, health officials announced Monday.

Three clusters of cases were found, according to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. Ages of those infected range from late teens to people in their 60s.

None of the people had previous international travel history and the individuals are isolating at home while recovering, officials said.

No serious illness has been reported and the majority of cases were fully vaccinated, Maricopa County added.
