CMC is a pioneer of sustainable steel solutions and is continually looking for ways to innovate. Earlier this year, we officially broke ground in Mesa on a new state-of-the-art steelmaking facility that will be located adjacent to our existing micro mill on Germann Rd. This steel mill will be the very first combination merchant bar and rebar producing micro mill in the world.
Every CMC mill, including the micro mill currently under construction, utilizes electric arc furnace (EAF) technology to melt and produce steel products. Our scrap metal based EAF micro and mini mill steelmaking processes are far more advanced and environmentally sustainable than traditional steel mills and consume fewer natural resources, use less energy and release fewer emissions, making us a leader in sustainable steelmaking.
