Peoria election: A competitive mayoral race is shaping up as Cathy Carlat faces term limits

With two potential candidates pulling paperwork to run for mayor of Peoria, the city’s 2022 election is generating more interest than the last.

Mayor Cathy Carlat ran unopposed in the city’s 2018 election and is now term-limited after taking office as Peoria’s first female mayor in 2015.

Councilmember Bridget Binsbacher, who represents north Peoria’s Mesquite District, and political newcomer Jason Beck, who owns one of the city’s largest private businesses, have both filed statements of interest to run for mayor.
