Opinion: Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly may be vulnerable in 2022, but his impressive fundraising suggests there are plenty of people willing to help him win.

By Elvia Díaz | Arizona RepublicDemocratic Sen. Mark Kelly has raised several times more money for his re-election campaign than any of the Republican challengers striving to unseat him.

Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly is leaving his Republican rivals in the dust, raising a whopping $9 million in the last three months of 2021.

Not even his wealthiest GOP challengers came close to matching Kelly’s formidable fundraising.

Businessman Jim Lamon said he raised $3.2 million this quarter, while Blake Masters, the head of the private Thiel Foundation, said he raised $1.38 million during the same period.

The biggest loser in this GOP primary? Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who said he brought in just $800,000 in the last quarter of the year. And that was even after practically turning his office into his campaign headquarters.

Brnovich is toast, if money is any indication – which it often is about election prospects.
