“The decisions she has made in the Senate have affected the Latino community.”
According to Kenny Sandoval, campaign vice president for Voto Latino, this is the sentiment that propelled the ¡Adiós Sinema! campaign, a fundraising initiative that seeks to remove the Democratic senator from her seat in Congress.
Sandoval said the decisions that Sen. Kyrsten Sinema has made as a representative of Arizonans are contrary to the interests of minorities, especially Latinos in the state who supported her with their vote.
“Her obstructionism (in Congress) is a slap in the face to the voters,” Sandoval told La Voz.
“Her choices in the Senate have time and time again been against the constituents of the Latino community and we are holding her accountable as we move forward to the 2024 election cycle,” Sandoval said.
Her failure to move against the filibuster, her rejection of an increase to the minimum wage and her opposition to providing economic relief to undocumented immigrants are three major strikes against the senator, Sandoval said.
The campaign is focused on raising funds to support the candidate who runs against her in the Democratic primaries in 2024.
According to Sandoval, one of the strongest contenders to potentially run against Sinema is Rep. Ruben Gallego — a bid he’s yet to confirm publicly.
On opposite ends: Kyrsten Sinema and Ruben Gallego have long clashed
Voto Latino’s plans are to organize activists and community leaders to take to the streets, and spending time talking to the Latino community while encouraging them to get out and vote.
The general election for the senate seat held by Sinema is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2024. Sinema was elected into the Senate in 2018.
