Valley musical could be first Arizona-produced play to reach Broadway with help from Chicanos Por La Causa

Chicanos Por La Causa, a community development organization that serves the Mexican-American community, is investing $2.5 million to help bring the Valley-produced musical “¡Americano!” to Broadway.

The musical written by Michael Barnard, Jonathan Rosenberg and Fernanda Santos, is based on the true-life story of Camelback High School graduate Tony Valdovinos, who was inspired to join the Marines after the 9/11 attacks. When he tried to enlist on his 18th birthday, though, he learned he was an undocumented immigrant brought to the U.S. from Mexico when he was only 2 years old.
