Cactus Surf Park, a water park expected to start construction in Gilbert Regional Park this summer, could use nearly 50 million to 65 million gallons of water per year.

At the high end, that’s roughly the same amount of water used by 600 average Phoenix-area homes in a year.

Documents show the town is requiring the developer to bring 10,000 acre-feet, or 3.3 billion gallons, of its own water. The developer has until the end of April to buy that water and show town officials where it bought the water. Developer Cactus Surf Park LLC did not respond to The Arizona Republic’s repeated requests for comment.
