Opinion: New polling shows a clear path to re-election for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema if she makes progress in one important policy sphere.

A number of Arizona political observers have said U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is in trouble with the Democratic Party in our state.

Her defense of the legislative filibuster that prevented Democrats from passing policy priorities by single-party vote rankled the base and led to censure and threats that she would face a primary challenge when she runs again in 2024.

However, new polling points to a clear path to re-election with progress in one important policy sphere.

If she can deliver on prescription drug prices.

Voters want lower drug prices, survey says

A recent survey shows that voters in Arizona strongly approve giving Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices, with more than 7 in 10 voters in Arizona (73%) agreeing that bringing down prescription drug prices would help families combat rising costs and inflation.

As many families struggle with rising costs and inflation, they know that reducing health care costs can make a real difference in their finances.

Regardless of recent political chatter about Sen. Sinema’s popularity with the Democratic Party left, when voters were asked if they approved of Sinema’s efforts to lower prescription drug prices, that approval number jumped to 45% – and the disapproval fell by almost half, to 28%, according to the survey conducted by Public Policy Polling.
