After feeling ignored by the process prior to this point, Maricopa City Council members threw their support behind a late alternative.
Councilwoman Nancy Smith said the supervisor meeting on Tuesday in Florence for redistricting Pinal County’s supervisor districts was a “very important day.” The councilmembers have been urging the board of supervisors to consider Maricopa’s feedback on the maps.
She said there were 127 pieces of feedback from all five districts with 69 from Maricopa.
“We spoke loud and clear,” Smith said.
When map C came out, the council felt their community was being “totally ignored.” The main issue is that it takes out the area around the Tortosa neighborhood and lumps that in with Casa Grande.
There were three council members who went to the meeting on Tuesday and saw the presentation of maps D and E. She felt both maps took into consideration Maricopa’s feedback.
“We consider that a huge success,” she said.
