Representatives from the Arizona Department of Transportation said during Friday’s Pinal Partnership breakfast that widening Interstate 10 is the agency’s main priority.
Katy Proctor, ADOT director of government relations and rules, spoke about the concern of many over the section from Casa Grande to Chandler, which still has two lanes on each side and has been the study of planning by ADOT.
“The I-10 expansion project is our main priority. I can’t say that loud enough, I can’t make that clear enough,” Proctor said. “It is extremely important.”
Proctor also touched on the large amounts of funding that would be available via the federal government’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“I think that (the funding act) will be a critical component in everything we are going to see in the state for the next five years,” she said. “We are very excited about the infrastructure legislation. It’s going to give us around $5 billion in funding over the next five years. It’s about a 23% increase to ADOT’s federal formula funding. Every dollar that we can get into the state is a dollar for Arizona.”
