Paradise Valley under investigation for short-term rental rules

An Arizona state senator is asking the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the Town of Paradise Valley’s newest short-term rental ordinances.


If the town is found to have violated state law, Paradise Valley could risk losing its state-shared revenue if officials believe a correction is not made.

On Feb. 28, Sen. Warren Petersen, R-Gilbert, filed a legislator request for investigation — known as a Senate Bill 1487 investigation — at the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. Petersen sought an opinion on if the Paradise Valley local ordinance on short-term rentals in conflict with existing state law.

The complaint was filed two days after Paradise Valley’s newly approved short-term rental ordinances went into affect on Feb. 26.
