COOLIDGE — While the Coolidge Planning and Zoning Commission has approved the site plan for Pinal Hispanic Council’s proposed location at the old Cohen Department Store site at Central Avenue and Third Street, it is waiting to see if federal funding can be received to construct the new building.
The Cohen building, once a major department store, suffered a roof collapse years ago because there was no maintenance being done to the property after the store closed, said City Manager Rick Miller.
After the west wall of the building became unstable as well, the property owner decided to demolish it and then donate the lot to the city.
