Pinal County Supervisor Kevin Cavanaugh last week promised to propose an amendment to change a redistricting map to make Coolidge whole with one supervisor, not three as approved recentlyCavanaugh, R-Coolidge, was the guest speaker at the March 16 Chamber of Commerce luncheon, where the majority of his presentation focused on the redistricting map.
He said the map the supervisors approved came in at a late time, splitting Coolidge into three districts. He added it was surprising and said he immediately contacted Coolidge Mayor Jon Thompson.
“Is it good to have one supervisor representing one town or three?” Cavanaugh asked rhetorically. “I live here. I have properties here. My heart is here, and I will continue to work for Coolidge.”
Cavanaugh lives in Coolidge and also has an office in the city, and both are in his new district boundary.
He thinks his fellow supervisors will be willing to revisit the redistricting boundaries.
“After the election I will make proposals to adjust the map to make Coolidge more whole,” he said. The supervisors are not up for election this year.
After the luncheon, Cavanaugh said this change was already discussed as a possibility, and it is likely the other supervisors will make adjustments.
