Following the approval of Arizona’s Independent Redistricting Commission’s Final Draft Map, the state’s congressional districts will look a little different this election cycle. Arizona’s new 9th Congressional District covers most of the state’s western border, covering parts of La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave, and Yuma counties.
As a member of the U.S House of Representatives, congressmen serve two year terms with no term limits. The GOP primary election is Aug. 2.
Here are the candidates running for Arizona’s new 9th Congressional district:
Republicans:
Sandra Dowling, former Maricopa County Schools Superintendent.
Sandra Dowling once again is running to represent Arizona in Congress. Dowling previously ran to represent Arizona’s 8th Congressional District in 2018.
Dowling previously served as the Maricopa County school superintendent and is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Dowling’s candidate information on the Arizona Secretary of State website states she is “an experienced leader and business entrepreneur.”
Dowling, a real estate agent, was the president and CEO of a West Valley insurance agency. Dowling has not yet filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
