The city of Phoenix is preparing to sell 87 acres of land in Laveen to the Arizona Department of Transportation for a new freeway through the Southwest Valley.
The Phoenix Planning Commission last week OK’d a city staff-initiated rezone and general plan amendment that would change the property northeast of 67th Avenue and Roeser Road from being designated for low-density residential and parks uses to intermediate commercial uses.
The plan is that ADOT will use whatever land it needs for the right of way of State Route 30 — which will connect Loop 202 to Loop 303 — and sell the remaining land bordering the new freeway for commercial use.
