Commercial development projects in Surprise will be brought to market faster after the Surprise City Council voted to eliminate a couple of steps in the process.
Major site plans, which now go through Planning and Zoning approval, will be handled by the community development director.
Also, preliminary plats, which the city council now approves, will be taken over by the P&Z as the approval body.
Site plan appeals will be heard by the P&Z, while preliminary plat appeals will be heard by the city council.
Final plats will remain as is, with the decision authority being the city council.
The city council voted 4-1 to approve the changes, with only Councilman Patrick Duffy voting against it. Council members Roland Winters and Ken Remley were absent from the meeting.
