With commercials space beginning to dwindle around Surprise with all the ongoing business development, the Surprise City Council voted April 19 to hold some back.
The council unanimously rejected a rezoning request at the northeast corner of Peoria and Sarival avenues that would have converted a corner commercial space into residential to make way for multi-family bungalows.
“I’m not just ready to hand over another corner,” District 3 Councilman Patrick Duffy said before the council voted. “Because Peoria Avenue is a hot spot. To me, I really don’t see the need to give up on it commercially.”
Kyle Barchello of RVi Planning and Landscape Architecture was requesting the zoning change from commercial to residential high density to make way for the development of approximately 114 bungalow style rental units, called the Bungalows at Peoria and Sarival.
