MARICOPA — Congress took up the city’s request to help build a bridge that would increase accessibility in Maricopa.
The city requested $2.7 million to build this bridge just west of State Route 347, providing a connection between the two ends of North Maricopa Road. It will have an elevator to allow bikes access and be fully ADA compliant.
The bridge became a priority after the completion of the SR 347 overpass in 2019. Previous to that, pedestrians could simply walk across the Union Pacific railroad tracks along the road, but the road was fenced off at the tracks when the overpass went up. This has particularly been a burden for the Heritage District, and those needing to walk to Maricopa High School from the north side of the tracks.
