Maricopa County Supervisor Clint Hickman appears on CNN to condemn attack on Arizona Capitol and warn against extremism on both sides of the political spectrum

Roe reversal fueling passion’: “In Arizona, Friday’s protest outside the state capital ended in a cloud of tear gas…. While there was zero arrests, the nature of the political protests in the country seems to have shifted. And this is not isolated to any one party.”

Maricopa County Supervisor and Board Vice Chair, Clint Hickman, talked to CNN earlier this week about the extremism that’s happening on both sides of the political spectrum. Here’s some of what he had to say…

On protesting at justices’ homes: “You have people coming into residential areas. Those Supreme Court justices were appointed to a position. I ran for this position. The neighbors… never would have considered people walking down the street and screaming horrible things. They’re there to live and grow their families. It has to stop.”

On refusing to take President Trump’s call, post-election: “I’m still incredibly happy I didn’t take the call. If I would have taken the call, who knows where that would have gone. I know for a fact it would have gone one place. I would have probably been in Washington D.C., testifying right alongside Arizona Speaker of the House Rusty Bowers, because we were dealing with the same pressures from the same people — his testimony would have been my testimony.”

On inciting mob anger via language: “I don’t like to use the military terms or threats of violence and calling people straight-out evil…. I do not like the use of any types of pejoratives that say other people are evil for trying to get their point across. It’s just not right.”
