Neighbors oppose mini-storage wishing to locate among homes

FLORENCE — A mini-storage business surrounded by homes in Anthem would be an ideal use for a vacant site and provide a needed service, according to the developer. But some neighbors say it doesn’t belong and they don’t want it.

Wentworth Property Company is seeking to rezone 6.5 acres near the southwest corner of Merrill Ranch Parkway and Felix Road from residential to highway commercial for a single-story self-storage facility. Such a rezoning also requires a major amendment to the Anthem Planned Unit Development and a conditional use permit.

A scheduled public hearing and vote by the Planning and Zoning Commission last month was delayed until June 16 after the applicant asked for a continuance.
