ELOY — While Richard Horton may be new to the mayoral election race, the lifelong Eloy resident is not new to the ins and outs of the City Council. Now, after some time away from local government, Horton is ready to return and challenge current Mayor Micah Powell in the upcoming election.

Horton is a former Eloy city councilmember and businessman, who ran the NAPA Auto Parts store in Eloy before handing the day-to-day operations to his son.

“I am not a golfer, and I really have no hobbies So I thought I would give back to Eloy what it has given me and my family for the past 45 years,” Horton said. “That is what I am going to do, give back to Eloy. I have a business degree from (the University of Arizona), and what I am trying to do for Eloy is bring in the knowledge of 45 years in business to the city.”
