Senate President Karen Fann

Senate President Karen Fann Q and A
What were the highlights for you, not just at this session, but of all your sessions?
It’s been great being a legislator, both in the House and the Senate. These last four years of being a Senate president. First of all, very honored, just to be a Senate president is really quite an honor that your caucus elects you to do that. It was a double honor, because they elected me a second time and it’s not very often that a Senate president gets to serve two full terms, so that was a huge honor. I am only the second female Senate president so that was an extra little bonus just to see that we’re mixing it up a little bit here.
I’ve had pretty much every single lobbyist come to me at some point and they’ve been down here 20, 30, almost 40 years. And never, never, never have they seen a Senate president have to deal with as much as I’ve had to deal with. Whether it’s a governor or anybody, you have your peaks and valleys, you had your 1070, you had your AzScam. So, you ride it out, and then it goes back to normal, you ride it out. But for the last four years, it’s been high alert the entire time. … We’ve had Covid going on for almost four years now in some degree or another, dealing with the 17-13. And now the 16-14 margins last year, and this year, dealing with the audit, and the election.
