Apartments planned for site of Arizona’s first governor’s home

The central Phoenix site that was home to Arizona’s first governor has been vacant for decades but will soon be developed as an apartment complex, and a building nearby will be repurposed as a restaurant. 

Phoenix-based Moderne Apartments happened onto the site near 16th Street and McDowell Road, looking for a place to develop an apartment complex near the expanded Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus. Valleywise Health also is expanding its campus at 24th and Roosevelt streets.

“We saw all the medical campuses around, and so many are growing their employment base,” David Dewar, co-founder and co-CEO of Moderne, said.
