MARICOPA — While acknowledging that she might not be ziplining or hot air ballooning to the podium like her predecessor, Mayor Nancy Smith said in her first State of the City address that what’s in store for Maricopa is enough to provide residents with plenty of excitement.
City Hall had a packed room that echoed with laughter and loud applause throughout her speech, which included a summary of Smith’s journey to becoming Maricopa’s first female mayor while detailing with humor and the help of city staff and councilmembers what has happened in the city and what they expect to come.
Smith started her speech off introducing herself to the community, where she’s from, graduating her college as the first female with an electronic technology degree, her trip with some buddies in their motorcycle gang to the west coast after college and packing her life up from Illinois to live in Arizona working for Motorola.
