Lawmakers have been busy introducing almost 600 bills through both the state House of Representatives and the state Senate. Some carry heavy sentences while others could violate constitutional law.
The bills introduced by Republican state lawmakers this session attempt to change the judicial landscapes of drug enforcement by seeking stiffer sentences and punishment.
They also seek to expand police authority and strengthen sentencing for anyone charged with assaulting officers.
Some bills attempt to criminalize living on the street and sleeping in public, while others try to create new laws against riots and protesting.
Although many of the bills presented by Republican lawmakers are likely to end with a veto by Gov. Katie Hobbs, they showcase the criminal justice priorities of state GOP senators and representatives.
