The mayor of Goodyear discussed some of the city’s top issues at his annual state of the city address, briefly touching upon development, water and traffic as well as some of the highlights of the previous year.
It was the first time Mayor Joe Pizzillo has given a state of the city address as the elected leader of Goodyear.
The main thrust of his address was building a “complete city,” echoing Goodyear’s “live, work, play” motto. Pizzillo reiterated it is the city’s vision to make services of all kinds available within city limits, so residents won’t have to brave traffic on Interstate-17, which Pizzillo humorously called “the biggest parking lot in Phoenix.”
Pizzillo recounted some of the previous year’s achievements, including the completion of Goodyear’s long-awaited city hall, which opened last August. The surrounding land is still largely vacant, but city leaders hope to develop the area into a robust entertainment district and walkable downtown. Pizzillo said the public can expect new developments to be announced shortly.
