Coolidge pushing for passenger rail service

COOLIDGE — Coolidge had passenger service on the Southern Pacific Railroad years ago and later with Amtrak before that public entity dropped direct service into Phoenix, and city officials want it to return.

When Coolidge Mayor Jon Thompson attended Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s newly launched working group with other rural community leaders in Globe earlier this month, one of the goals focused on rail transportation.

Thompson said the group met and discussed the funding for infrastructure including rail, which he said would be a huge benefit for Coolidge.
