Buckeye approves rezoning for rent-only homes, industrial

The Buckeye Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday heard three rezoning requests for new housing, job opportunity and shopping center.

The Buckeye Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday heard three rezoning requests for new housing, job opportunity and shopping center.

The commission recommended for approval the Cielo Azul housing project, which sought the changing the land-use designation from rural to neighborhood of 31.40 acres about a quarter mile east of the northeast corner of Indian School Road and Jackrabbit Trail.

Bart Wingard, principal planner for the city spoke, presented the request of NextGen AZ Holdings LLC in requesting approval for a minor general plan amendment.

The developer requested to rezone the property from single-family residential to multifamily with the intent of developing 335-unit bungalow-style rental community. The proposed rezoning intends to accommodate the development of multifamily units, according to city documents.
