Supervisors should take their time — lots of time

Maricopa County supervisors

Dismissed and disgraced Republican state Rep. Liz Harris was a conspiracy- driven election denier before she was in the Legislature.

Then she invited a speaker at a public hearing to claim that state officeholders, Mesa City Council members and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints were part of a drug cartel “bribery” scheme.

That freakish dog and pony show got Harris booted from elected office and put the decision of who will replace her in the hands of the Maricopa County supervisors, the very individuals that Harris and those like her have been trashing since 2020.

Kind of a sweet irony for the supervisors, don’t you think? Although, there is a sour aftertaste, since precinct committee members in Harris’ Legislative District 13 got to nominate the three individuals from whom supervisors must pick a replacement.

And since these are the folks who gave us Harris in the first place you can imagine their choices.

First, they nominated Harris herself. (I’d guess that’ll be a hard “no” from supervisors.)

Then, they picked a couple of Mini-Me versions of Harris in Julie Willoughby and Steve Steele.

Willoughby ran with Harris as part of a Republican tag team. She didn’t make the cut.
