A long vacant property in Peoria has taken a major step toward revitalization.

Peoria City Council recently approved the former Smitty’s property at Grand and 85th avenues for 200 multifamily units.

Mayor Jason Beck said the approval signifies a big change for the Old Town Peoria area.

“This is going to be a major difference for downtown,” he said.

The project will be a mix of 3-story apartments and 2-story townhomes with units ranging from studios to 3-bedrooms.

Height is planned for a maximum of 40 feet.
