The new $1 billion destination resort in Glendale, one year away from opening, announced Thursday its latest addition to the 60-acre complex.
The VAI Amphitheater and its $40 million stage will anchor the VAI Resort, which is scheduled to open in 2024 along with its newly announced 8,000-seat, on-site performing arts venue. With its furthest seat only 200 feet from the stage, the VAI Amphitheater aims to book two shows per week year-round.
“We’re not too small, we’re not too big. We really have that sweet spot,” Howard Weiss, VAI Resort vice president of entertainment, said on the grounds Thursday. “That’s going to allow us to do stuff mid-week – on a Tuesday night to throw a (entertainment) series in, 30-40 times a year, to bring in some really big stars here.”
