Mayor Ortega’s chief of staff resigns

By J. Graber | Scottsdale Progress

Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega’s chief of staff resigned from his post after two resident complaints were filed with the city against him.

David Simmons resigned his post with the city May 4 among complaints he had posted sexually explicit photos on social media.

Attempts to reach Simmons for comment on this story were unsuccessful.

Identical posts appeared on both Simmons’s Instagram and Facebook accounts showing screenshots of adult content.

The post reads, “So two of my ex-boyfriends have known each other many, many years. This was prior to me knowing them. It has come to my attention that they are hanging out all of the time and have a side business in the adult entertainment industry. I am wondering what their motives were in coming into my life?!?! They certainly were quite close before and after me. Something is not adding up here. What on Earth could their motives be?”

A public records request to the city of Scottsdale revealed that on April 1, the city received two emailed complaints of the posts. One complaint was emailed to the Scottsdale City Council while the other was emailed to Mayor David Ortega. Both complaints have had the sender name redacted.
