Optima McDowell Mountain Village clears last hurdle

The massive Optima McDowell Mountain Village mixed use development near the intersection of Mayo Boulevard and Scottsdale Road cleared its last hurdle May 4 before construction can begin.

The Scottsdale Development Review Board voted 6-0 to approve the exterior aesthetics of the project. Board member William Scarbrough left the meeting before the vote was taken.

The 22-acre site is earmarked for 1,300 apartments and condominiums as well as 36,000 square feet of commercial property.

The project will consist of studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units that range from 775 to 2,025 square feet.

The project is expected to cost $1 billion.

“I like the building layouts,” Scarbrough said. “I like the undulation (of the facade). I like the low reflectivity glass. I like the amenities on the roof.”
The project will be built in three phases over 10 years. At full build out, it will consist of six, eight-story buildings with Olympic swimming pools and running tracks on the top.
