CASA GRANDE — The proposed Nexus industrial site near Henness Road and Cottonwood Lane has stalled after the Casa Grande City Council voted 7-0 to table the request on grounds of serious concerns about truck traffic.
Meanwhile, a major housing development in the Rancho Grande area was approved.
Phoenix-based applicant Jack Gilmore on behalf of New Castle Dome Ltd Partnership requested a major plan amendment on 162.5 acres from Neighborhoods to Commerce and Business west of Interstate 10.
Had the change request been granted it would have allowed light industrial development such as warehousing, a multitenant business park, light manufacturing, assembling, warehousing and distribution, e-commerce and wholesale activities.
Residents in the nearby Palm Creek Golf & RV Resort have vehemently opposed the project due to concerns of increased traffic flows on Henness Road and Cottonwood Lane.
During the call to public time, Palm Creek resident Barbara Jackson told councilmembers the issue is “huge” in her community and that if the development was allowed to proceed it would bring levels of unacceptable truck traffic.
