ELOY — The city of Eloy has proposed and is now considering an ordinance that would unnecessarily restrict utility-scale solar and storage development. If passed, this ordinance will harm the city and its residents. We need the City Council and mayor to reject this ordinance.
Eloy continues to suffer from water issues. These issues will not go away anytime soon, leaving the future uncertain. Solar is a significant option to help alleviate this problem. Solar development does not require large amounts of water initially or in the long-term maintenance of the project.
This can be a useful development and investment option. For example, solar is a viable investment option where agriculture is currently challenging because of the lack of water resources. The residents of Eloy should have the opportunity to pursue these kinds of investments without the unnecessary restrictions the ordinance contains.
