A proposed new hotel in the Arrowhead Towne Center section of Glendale is mobilizing nearby residents who aren’t pleased with the potential location.
Since launching in 2020, North Carolina-based stayAPT Suites offers long-term lodging with units that blend elements of both an apartment and a hotel room. Suites include full kitchens, a living area and separate bedroom.
According to its website, stayAPT Suites has nearly 70 locations across the country, including two in New Mexico and one in California as its expansion rolls west, including what would be its first Arizona property.
An applicant on behalf of the developer is requesting a conditional-use permit for the hotel on a two-acre parcel currently zoned as a planned-area development.
The parcel, though, at the northwest corner of 73rd Avenue and Camino San Xavier, is close to the nearby Secluded Acres and Estates neighborhood.
Homes there are less than a two-minute walk from the planned extended-stay hotel site, and residents aren’t happy.
