Surprise, Youngtown growing in different ways

Surprise and Youngtown are two nothwest Valley municipalities sandwiched around El Mirage. They’re both growing younger, but in different ways. They detailed the progress of their areas at the Chamber breakfast.

The two municipalities were both retirement communities before the two mayors came onto their respective councils.

In Youngtown, census figures show the median age is 39.2, a far cry from a quarter century ago when it was age restricted and only seniors lived there. All ages were allowed to live there starting in 1998.

“We’ve been seeing a massive demographic shift from retirees to mostly young families,” LeVault said
